Sunset Lake Patrols

The NC-048 squadron will once again be doing Sunset Lake Patrols on the area lakes this summer. Missions began on Memorial Day weekend. Any Mission Pilot, Observer, or Scanner who wishes to participate, please contact 2Lt Jerry Wood. He will be putting together the schedule and assigning aircrews.

The Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron was well represented at the NC Wing SAREX in Asheboro, NC over the weekend of 16-17 January 2010.  10 Senior members and 3 cadets participated in the training weekend that included both air and ground operations.

In addition to personnel, the squadron contributed several assets to the SAREX in the form of two aircraft, a Cessna 172 and a Cessna 182 NavIII, and a 15 passenger van.

Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron Names New Assistant Emergency Services Officers

Capt. Shawn McComas, Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron DO, announced the addition of Capt. Pete Bohler and 1Lt. Allen Johnson as Assistant Emergency Services (ES) Officers. They will both be training under Capt. Victor Lewis, the current Emergency Services Officer.

Capt. Bohler has been with CAP since February 2005 and has achieved all three Ground Team Member Achievements, Ground Team Leader, and Ground Branch Director. He is also a qualified Mission Observer and Scanner, has his CD qualifications and has participated on several recent missions.

1Lt. Johnson is a relative newcomer who has demonstrated a certain level of dedication and determination in obtaining all three mission aircrew qualifications as well as his G1000 checkout since his arrival in December 2008. He has participated in several recent missions and is also our current squadron Historian.

Both have excellent organizational skills and will do well in the Emergency Services position. Their main objective will be to help our squadron members further their ES goals and qualifications, help setup necessary training for all new and current members, and ensuring your ES paperwork works its way smoothly through the system. Please congratulate them on their willingness to accept this mission.

Raleigh, NC - The Gov. Jim Martin Building on the NC State Fairgrounds provided the setting for the NC-048 Annual Holiday Celebration. Family and friends gathered on December 19th for an evening of festive food and fellowship. As has been the case in recent years, that Jolly (not-so-old) Elf. Lt. Col. John Maxfield keep the evening moving along at a brisk pace—even though the guest speaker was forced to cancel out at the last minute

Special guests included Col. Larry Ragland, Col. Roy Douglass and his wife Gail and Lt. Col. David Crawford.

Tradition has it that many awards and promotions are handled at the banquet, and this year was no exception.

A number of those in attendance were heard to praise the dinner menu. “This was a giant step up from the usual barbeque pork and chicken of past years,” one member said. The fare included entrees of baked lasagna and lemon chicken, which was superb!

Squadron Commander, Maj. Tim Tessin remarked that during the past year, 10 senior members were promoted to Captain and NC-048 gained three new Majors and One Lt. Colonel. Maj. Tessin then proceeded to present the newly authorized Achievement Ribbon to 13 unit members:
